Government & Regulatory Affairs
The Apothecary Shops has recognized that taking care of our patients and making sure our patients have access to the best pharmaceutical care in the world means taking an active role in shaping the public policy that affects the delivery and practice of pharmacy services.
In 2003, The Apothecary Shops hired Dr. Mark Boesen, Pharm.D. Dr. Boesen is a clinical pharmacist with a specialized background in federal, state and local health-care policy. Since 1996, The Apothecary Shops has been a vanguard organization leading a number of initiatives positively impacting the patients we serve. In 2007, The Apothecary Shops established an Office of Government and Regulatory Affairs that serves to support our internal organization and the pharmacy profession as a whole.
The Government Affairs’ team has actively participated in drug use quality improvement, drug reimbursement policy and patient friendly insurance reform. Government Affairs’ staff has been invited to work and consult on public policy initiatives at all levels of government including: the White House, the US Congress, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), National Quality Forum, the National Governors’ Association and state legislatures throughout the United States.
