AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who is filling my medications?
A:
The Apothecary Shops is the exclusive provider of the Ryan White Part A and B pharmacy services in Arizona. The AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) is based out of the Apothecary Shop of Tucson. Eric Sredzinski, Pharm.D., and Deb Van Sant, RPh. are the pharmacists in charge of running the ADAP program. They are assisted by three dedicated ADAP pharmacy technicians: Roberta Deckert CPhT, Lupe Rosario CPhT, and Allison Myers CPhT.

Q: How do I refill my medications?
A:
All ADAP clients are contacted 7-10 days prior to their last dose of medication as a reminder to refill their prescription. When you receive this call, we will need to verify your address and your preference for mail-order service to your home (or location of your choice), or pick up at one of our nine Arizona locations. In addition, you may request a refill online (https://www.smartscript.com/tas/scr/refill.aspx), or call us at (520) 881-3079 or toll-free at (866) 881-4902.

Q: What do I do if I am told by the pharmacy that I’m ineligible to receive ADAP medications?
A:
You must call the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) at (800) 334-1540 for eligibility issues. The Apothecary Shops does not determine eligibility or have any information regarding changes in eligibility status.

Q: Can my medications be shipped out-of-state?
A:
You must call ADHS at (800) 334-1540 for any special requests, and they will notify The Apothecary Shops.

Q: What if a medication prescribed by my doctor is not covered under the ADAP formulary?
A:
You may contact your doctor to see if a formulary alternative is available. The ADAP formulary is available for your review at http://www.azdhs.gov/phs/hiv/pdf/formulary.pdf. If your medication is not covered, you may still fill your prescription through The Apothecary Shops using insurance you may have or by paying out-of-pocket for it.

Q: Can I continue to get my medications sent to me for free if I get private health insurance or AHCCCS?
A:
Absolutely. The Apothecary Shops will be happy to continue to fill all of your medications and ship them to you free of charge. We take all insurance plans as well as the AHCCCS plans.
