The Apothecary Shops was founded in 1996 as a single pharmacy located in Scottsdale, Arizona. Since inception, we have experienced rapid growth and now have 16 physical locations throughout the United States as well as a national mail-order facility and wholesale division headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona.
Since our formation, we have been a leader in providing specialty and compounded medications to meet the specific needs of patients and practitioners. Our facilities are staffed by pharmacists and certified pharmacy technicians who are specially trained in one or more disease states, and many of our pharmacists also are board certified in one or more specialty.

To help serve our patients and practitioners, The Apothecary Shops offer a nationwide, specialty mail-order pharmacy. The 21,000-square-foot facility encompasses a state-of-the-art electronic call center, a prescription fulfillment center and a compounding laboratory. The pharmacy is staffed with dedicated call-center specialists who are highly trained to meet all specialty medication needs for patients and practitioners. Additionally, a clinical pharmacist is available 24 hours a day to provide comprehensive counseling and education to our patients. The mail-order pharmacy offers confidential, overnight shipping of all specialty products.
Quality Assurance
The Apothecary Shops maintain an aggressive quality control program for each of our compounding facilities. State-of-the-art laboratories are at the heart of our practice and include facilities dedicated to injectibles and other sterile compounds. Our clean rooms are certified to meet the highest standards set by the United States Pharmacopoeia Convention and comply with 797/795 guidelines for sterile and non-sterile preparations. Each facility is regularly tested to ensure requirements for sterility are exceeded. In addition, our compounded medications are regularly tested by an outside FDA-approved laboratory to ensure product potency, sterility and consistency are maintained.
PCAB Accreditation
Our company continually strives to show commitment to safety and high-quality standards, and in 2006, The Apothecary Shop of Scottsdale became the first pharmacy in the nation to earn the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board’s (PCAB) Seal of Accreditation – a system of standards created by some of the leading organizations in pharmacy. Since then, six more of our pharmacies have been recognized with this coveted designation. It is the goal of The Apothecary Shops to achieve full PCAB accreditation for all stores in 2010.
Managed Care
An important part of our services we provide to patients is assistance with their medication reimbursement support needs. The Apothecary Shops staff is experienced in payer policies and procedures, prior-authorization guidelines and utilization-management programs. The Managed Care team serves as the primary point of contact for physician questions regarding medication reimbursement for their patients. Our approaches allow us to secure coverage for medications from the most appropriate payer(s), while ensuring all policies adopted by payers are adhered to by our professional staff.
